Play Station 3 vs. Xbox 360
There are many different things that set gaming consoles apart from one another. One of these things is the quality and feel of their respective controllers. Also the design and external features, Central Processing Unit (CPU), Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), user interface, online features, and obviously the games they offer. Two of these gaming consoles that are going to be compared are the Play Station 3 and the Xbox 360.
In the category of controllers for the Play Station 3 and the Xbox 360 you have to consider the following things: craftsmanship and feel. With the Play Station 3 controller the quality of the craftsmanship is good but is inferior to the quality of the Xbox 360’s controller. The feel of the Xbox 360’s controller is also more natural feeling than the Play Station 3’s. In this comparison the Xbox wins with the superior controller.
The design of the two consoles is what separates them. The Play Station 3 is big and bulky with eye catching styling cues while the Xbox 360 is slimmer with a very distinct customizable style. The external features of both of these systems are almost identical. The Play Station 3 has a digital audio output for a sound system and an HDMI 1.3 output port that can play in 1080p resolution. The Xbox 360, on the other hand, does not have a digital audio output and has a 1.2 HDMI output that plays at 760p resolution. The Play Station 3 comes out victorious in this comparison.
Although the Play Station 3 has a faster Central Processing Unit the Xbox 360 has a bigger Graphics Processing Unit which means in the graphics and performance category the Play Station 3 and the Xbox 360 come out tied.
The next comparison is the user interface of both systems. The Play Station 3’s user interface is very user friendly and easy to learn if you are new to the product. The Play Station 3’s user interface is also faster and more responsive. On the other hand the Xbox 360’s user interface is very easy to get lost in if you are new to the product and it also seems to be crowded with too many applications which creates more confusion. In this assessment the Play Station is the victor.
One of the biggest topics on this issue is the online features and prices of online features. The Play Station 3 has a web browser and has free online gaming known as PSN. Xbox 360 does not have a web browser and in order to play online with Xbox Live you have to pay fifty dollars a year. Another problem with Xbox 360 is that it does not come with wi-fi which you have to pay an extra $100. In this category the Play Station 3 wins hands down.
Another problem with gaming consoles is their failure rates. The Play Station 3’s failure rate is 10%. The Xbox 360’s failure rate is 21.7% which is mostly caused by the “red ring of death” that has been known to plague Xbox 360s.
In this comparison of gaming consoles I believe that the Play Station 3 is the better system that will last longer and bring more enjoyment to the gamer based on the design and external features, superior user interface, online features, and the better failure rate. Sure the Xbox 360 has a better controller, but when it comes down to it, the Play Station 3 comes out on top.
